Curriculum Sites
FASTT Math-During the spring of 2009, we adopted the FASTT Math program to supplement the Investigations curriculum. FASTT Math challenges our 2nd to 5th grade children to increase their fluency in completing the basic math concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The teachers are able to utilize the report portion of the program to evaluate student progress. This website provides an overview of the program and it’s functions.
Story Town/Think Central-Houghton-Mifflin/Harcourt’s Story Town Reading program that we utilize as our core curriculum. The program is a comprehensive program that provides activities to support the struggling reader and challenge our most gifted students. The ‘Think-Central’ website allows students, parents, and teachers to access many different materials such as the reading anthologies and other activities to support student learning. Each child and teacher has an individual password that can be used to access the information from this website.
Thinkfinity-The ultimate site of lesson plans for teachers. This site provides a simple format for searching for a lesson on any topic for any grade level. Additionally, students and parents can access various games and activities to support their learning.
FOSS Web-The Science curriculum in the Colonial School District is supplemented by the lessons and activities found at FOSS web. The website helps students and teachers to better understand the curriculum through various activities.
Whiteboard Resources-This website offers a variety of different resources for enhancing the SMART board or interactive whiteboard in a classroom. The activities can also be used via the website or on a stand-alone computer.
Global Classroom/Interactive Resources-This website offers a number of different links to various resources on the web. It contains links for students, parents, and teachers to enhance the learning environment for children.
Teachers First-This is a website dedicated to teachers. As described on the site, it is designed as “…a rich collection of lessons, units, and web resources designed to save teachers time by delivering just what they need in a practical, user-friendly, and ad-free format.”
Mclass-This website offers reports and information for teachers regarding the progress of students as measured by the DIBELS assessments. Additionally, teachers can use the ‘Now What Tools’ to adjust lessons to align with particular strengths and needs of students using the Storytown curriculum.
Time for Kids-This website supports teachers using the Time for Kids magazine as a supplement to their curriculum. It provides additional lesson plans and ideas for using the magazine with their students.
Surf Net for Kids-This website offers resources for students, parents, and teachers that can be used to learn about new websites. The website offers reviews of other websites.
Other Useful Sites
ESchool Plus-The ESchool Plus program is used by students, parents, and staff to communicate regarding student progress. Teachers access the password protected site to enter student grades and attendance. Students and parents can then view the grades and attendance information as it is updated. The program is also used by the school staff to maintain contact and transportation information.
Data Service Center(DSC)-The DSC website is utilized by school staff for a variety of purposes, including: entering and reviewing student assessment information, managing Response to Intervention data, requesting vacation and professional days, inputting and tracking referral information, reviewing budgets, and tracking attendance.
Kelly Educational Staffing-Use this site to input substitute requests and to view previous requests for substitutes.
Character Education and Classroom Management Sites
Project Wisdom-Project Wisdom is a character education program that we have incorporated at Pleasantville Elementary. The program is centered around positive concepts such as: respecting self/others, creating goals, making positive choices, and following the ‘Golden Rule’. At the website, parents will find more information about the program and teachers will find activities to supplement the daily messages.
Responsive Classroom-At Pleasantville, we have adopted the Responsive Classroom (RC) approach to assist us in building and maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The RC approach begins with daily morning meetings in each classroom which helps to set a positive tone for the day. The social and academic learning components of RC are then integrated throughout the school day. This website offers visitors an overview of the components and other resources.
Love and Logic-Many Love and Logic strategies are integrated when working with our children at Pleasantville. We also offer Parent Workshops to assist parents in working with their children at home. This website provides an overview of the Love and Logic approach as well as information for additional resources.
Bullying.org-A wonderful website that offers advice and strategies on handling bullies at school and at home. The site is great for families and educators alike who are working to create a bully-free climate.
