Dear Parents/Guardians of 4th Grade Students,

 The Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program designed to encourage children to read high-quality literature and compete with and against their peers. In December 2008, students will be given a quiz that assesses their knowledge of the books from the attached list (Battle of the Books List).  The top students from each 5th grade classroom will ‘battle’ each other in a game show type format. The top team will be honored as will the top student in the school. We also hope to have a ‘Battle’ against another elementary school in the Colonial School District.

We hope that the program encourages and motivates our children to read, read, read. Books from the list can be found at any of the local libraries, book stores, or can be checked out during the summer from the Pleasantville library. It is not the intent to read the entire list of books, but to enjoy as many as possible. If you have any questions, please contact me.
